For parents
Your first session
The first visit is for the grown-ups, without your child.
You tell us about your child: what a good day looks like and what a hard one looks like. We explain how play sessions work and answer your questions. Then we plan your child's first play session together, including whether it starts with a short settling-in visit.

Before, during and after
Before
We send a short welcome page with photos of the door and the room, to read with your child. Tell us what your child notices, and we will change the room.
During
You meet the clinician for the parent visit. At the first play session your child looks around at their own pace, and a parent stays as long as your plan says.
After
You get a few words at the door, a written fee estimate if you pay without insurance, and a time for the next visit.
On the first day
What if my child will not go into the room?
That is a normal first day, and it is not a setback. Your child can stand at the door, sit in the waiting area with you, or bring a favorite object. The clinician follows their pace, and nothing is asked of them that they are not ready for.
Do I stay in the room?
Most children 4 and 5 start with a parent in the room or just outside, and move toward coming in alone when they are ready. Older children usually come in on their own. The plan is made with you before the first play session.
Do we need a diagnosis or an evaluation first?
No. Many children who come to us have not had one. If your child has been evaluated by a school or a doctor, you are welcome to share it, and nothing is required before the first parent visit.
